Who We Are

Asylum & Refugee Care (AARC) SCIO is a dedicated charity focused on supporting the growing number of refugees and people seeking asylum in North-East Scotland.

Our Mission

To lend a helping hand to those forced to flee their home countries, providing the care and support they need as they start to rebuild their lives. We are dedicated to upholding the human rights and dignity of people seeking asylum and refugees.

Our Story

What started as a small group of passionate volunteers in 2022 has since evolved into a fully registered charity by 2023. We are entirely volunteer-led and community-driven, based in Aberdeen City Centre.

Did You Know?
  • Nearly all new arrivals in Aberdeen arrive with only the clothes they are wearing, having been in processing centres for 4-6 weeks with only one set of clothes.
  • All new arrivals receive no Home Office support for the first two months and must rely entirely on charitable donations.
  • Thereafter, the Home Office provides just £8.86 per week — far below what anyone needs to live on.

What We Do

Meet & Greet

We meet every new arrival within 24 hours, providing care packs with toiletries, food, and information in their own language.

Clothing & Essentials

Weather-appropriate clothing, footwear, toiletries, and non-perishable food items for those who arrive with nothing.

Language Café & ESOL

Relaxed English practice with native speakers over coffee, plus structured ESOL classes to develop essential language skills.

Appointment & Email Support

Helping with GP and dentist registrations, writing emails to solicitors and the Home Office, and connecting to local services.

Community Connections

Connecting individuals with local diaspora communities and organising cultural exchange events to build friendships and belonging.

Trauma-Informed Support

Signposting and facilitating access to specialist trauma-informed counselling and mental health services for healing and recovery.

Why This System Exists

This portal is the internal volunteer and visitor management system used by AARC staff and volunteers to coordinate care, check visitors in, log services, and track attendance at our Aberdeen hub.
